Fulfilling the Wishes of Home-Based Patients — Seeing the Light of Life Through Care and Companionship
In 2017, in the Douliou Chengda community, a small haven called the “Love Garden” quietly blossomed.
This was not just a patch of greenery — it was a place where home-based patients and their families could find peace for their souls.
This is the story of me and “Zhi-Gen Grandfather” — after overcoming many difficulties, with the support of his family, the Douliou community Love Garden was established.
Under the gentle care of medical staff and volunteers, together we fulfilled many final wishes of those at the end of life’s journey:
Some wished to watch the sunset by the sea with their loved ones again, some hoped to walk a short path holding a family member’s hand — each wish seemed simple, yet carried the profound weight of a life lived.
“Protecting life, seeing the light” is not just a belief — it is a story played out every day in the Love Garden.
When a patient’s eyes light up as their wish is fulfilled, we too witness the purest light of life.
That is a warmth that transcends pain and time; it is a love that flows quietly.
In this tender place, we learned:
Genuine companionship needs no grandeur; fulfilling a wish allows life to bloom in its final chapter.

Great Love Walks with Us — Caring for People, Caring for the Earth
In 2019, with blessings and heartfelt support, the “Heart-Lotus Rooftop Garden of Love” was born at NCKU Hospital, Douliou.
Medical staff and volunteers joined charity sales, supporting the “Gifts of Love” project to gather kindness and finally build this eco-friendly, healing, and beautiful rooftop garden.
Today, it has become everyone’s favorite healing corner —
where sunshine and gentle breezes offer a moment of peace in a busy day.
Standing in the garden is the Tree of Great Love, designed by Chiu-Hua (Little Love), symbolizing love blossoming from the heart.
Along the path, volunteers painted the Blue-Sky-and-White-Clouds Corridor, every brushstroke carrying blessings for every visitor.
In this warm land, we learned:
Genuine companionship needs no grandeur; fulfilling a wish allows life to bloom in its final chapter.
